Teaching and Instructional Methods
Daily instruction at Mina's School of Great Falls is approached through a student-centered lens that is based on teaching methods backed by pedagogical research, the science of child development, and cognitive studies on how the brain learns best. Teachers deliver highly-detailed, structured lessons and assessments through whole-group and small-group instruction, responding to each individual learner's unique needs, strengths, and weaknesses. Each student receives a learning plan that is based on what he or she knows and instructional practices that will help the student grow and succeed.
Our lessons and assessments always challenge students to use all of their senses when learning new skills and concepts because we believe the brain learns best when it is stimulated in a variety of ways. We require all teachers to use tactile materials, manipulatives, and learning tools when introducing new information and assessments. When observers walk into our classrooms, they will see an active and dynamic learning atmosphere of teachers in motion and highly-engaged students.
We use a variety of distinguished textbooks and top educational resources from Voyages in English, McGraw Hill, Pearson, Scholastic, Fountas & Pinnell, Savvas, and Prentice Hall.
